Psychotherapy, Counselling, Psycho-Social Intervention, and Occupational Therapy

We provide individual services for adults, adolescents and children in English and French. We work with people suffering from depression, anxiety, grief and loss, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related difficulties, and dissociative disorders among other difficulties. For children and families, we provide parenting support and support in coping with separation and divorce for both parents and children. We provide affirming therapy and support for neurodivergent individuals and their families, including support in managing day-to-day challenges associated with ADHD or executive functioning difficulties. We provide affirming therapy and support for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and their families.

What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a psychological treatment for mental disorders, behavioural difficulties, or any other problem causing suffering or distress. Psychotherapy may involve discussion of difficult past or present experiences, increasing self-understanding, and trying new behaviours outside of sessions. Psychotherapy aims to promote significant changes in the client's cognitive, emotional, or behavioural functioning, interpersonal system, personality functioning, or health that goes beyond coping with everyday difficulties or providing advice or support. In general, the goals of psychotherapy are to gain relief from symptoms, maintain or enhance daily functioning, and improve quality of life. Psychotherapy is offered by our psychologists, psychotherapists, and interns (under the supervision of a registered psychologist).

What can Social Workers offer?
Social workers provide psycho-social interventions to help individuals and communities overcome challenges, such as family conflict or difficulties at work, whether in times of crisis or in everyday life. They take a holistic, strengths-based approach, considering both personal circumstances and environmental influences to develop targeted interventions and provide support to enhance well-being. Their work is practical, innovative, nonjudgmental, and grounded in the principles of social justice.

What is Occupational Therapy in Mental Health?
Occupational therapy in mental health helps individuals regain balance and improve their ability to function in daily life. Whether it’s managing stress, motivation, attention, organization, or emotions, occupational therapists work with people to identify what’s getting in the way of their participation in everyday activities — at work, at school, at home, or in their relationships. Using a practical, strengths-based approach, occupational therapists support clients in developing personalized strategies, building realistic routines, and restoring a sense of competence and control in their lives.

Assessment Services

Assessment is always part of the therapy or counselling process. Every new therapy relationship begins with an assessment so that your clinician may get to know you and the difficulties you wish to address in therapy. The assessment process may be longer or shorter, more or less formal, depending on your goals and needs.

Our psychologists also provide stand-alone, psycho-diagnostic assessment services for children, adolescents and adults. This is a formal assessment which may involve a clinical interview, completing questionnaires, or other activities. An assessment report will be provided upon request.

Appointments

Psychotherapy and counselling appointments are usually approximately 50-55 minutes long, with 5-10 minutes of administrative time. Most people find that weekly or bi-weekly appointments are helpful. The number of sessions varies greatly between individuals, depending on the reasons for therapy and treatment goals.

Assessment sessions are generally about 1.5 to 2 hours in length. Depending on the reason for the assessment, two or more sessions may be necessary.
